GET YOUR AMATEUR RADIO LICENCE
What is involved in getting licensed?
In New Zealand you sit a multi‑choice exam covering radio theory, operating practice, and the regulations. Once you pass, you apply for your callsign and licence from RSM and you are on the air.
The exam is based on a national question bank published by NZART, so you can study exactly the material that will be tested.
What is a Ham Cram?
A Ham Cram is an intensive weekend‑long course where you:
- Work through the key theory and regulations with experienced tutors
- Revise using practice questions from the real exam bank
- Sit the NZ amateur radio exam at the end of the course
Ham Crams are ideal if you prefer a structured class and want to get on air quickly.
Exam‑only sessions are for people who have studied on their own and just need a supervised sitting of the official NZ amateur radio exam. There is no formal teaching at these sessions, but an NZART‑approved examiner is present.
